That Alternative time

She searched for her script “Eye of the….”, she stopped and noticed a file labeled “17.doc”

“What is this?”, she didn’t recognize it at all.

She read on and was interrupted by a knock at the door. It was a girl scout selling cookies. "Oh my God, yes! Let me buy all of them. Just kidding, give me ten boxes of the Samoas, ten boxes of the shortbread, and five boxes of the thin mints."

The young girl gave her a smile and pulled the specified amount out.

“Oh, howdy neighbor!” she waved at her neighbor, whom she barely speaks to. She secretly felt bad about not connecting with him more; she had hoped he wasn’t taking it personally. She was just so drained after work each day, the last thing she wanted to do was socialize.

She walked over to him, “Hey, how are you? We’ve lived what, four years next to each other and we barely know one another. Let’s grab drinks some time.”, she suggested.

“Yeah, that sounds good. I could use a night out with everything that’s been happening lately.”, he replied.

“How about the old pool hall? The one right down the street from us.”, she said.

“Yeah, that’s perfect. How about eight!”, he said enthusiastically.

She sat down to see if she could find the file again. She found another mixed in with her stories, and another, and another.

She read:

“He saw his neighbor again, hoping she didn’t spot him before he could slip away. She glared at him, they’d been bickering ever since their friendship went.”

“What the… it sounds like us, but completely different, same names though. But just the opposite of what actually happened.

They met up that night and he started to tell her about the things that had been happening in his life.

“Wait! Hold that thought!”, she pulled out her phone. “Check this out!, she handed it to him to read.

Some of these sound so familiar, but ot’s like the opposite happened. That’s weird.”, he said

“Right?! I noticed something was up when I read one of the files yesterday and noticed it was very similar to our interaction we had when I bought the Girl Scout cookies,” she explained.

“How many of these do you have? Can you email them to me? I want to see how far back they go.”, he said.

She sent them all to him, making sure they were all accounted for.

The phone rang.

“I’ve figured it out!”, he shouted through the phone

“Ow!”, she replied

"Oooooo, sorry," he said.

“I was looking through all the dates and then I realized it all started around the same time my grandfather passed away and I inherited his clock. It would make funny noises sometimes as I would arrive through the door. I wonder if they’re connected in any way,” he questioned.

“Unplug the clock!”, She yelled. “Unplug it and see what happens to everything…..
